my old man
.
gruff
sometimes prickly and mostly silent
really quite hairy and a bit grey ’round the edges
forever watching over the brood
determined and hard-working
always ready to tough it out
even in those times of drought
beneath the barbs and bristles
a gentle heart of gold
beating in a forest
of fortitude

Happy Father’s Day to my old man
and all fathers everywhere.

Oh how I love the old man cactus! I have several at my home in Arizona. Great post!

i read this earlier and found i couldn’t comment – it seems so often men, fathers are underappreciated. discounted. and i found this touching, and kind, and well, i just wish my dad was here so i could tell him how much i miss him. makes no sense, so i didn’t say it then. here, in the dark of night, it’s easier. thank you.

Cool tribute to Father’s Day. Looks like it was taken at Longwood Gardens.
