a reflection
you cannot tame an ancient lion.
he already knows more than you
and besides, his claws are real.
::
you cannot fill a bucket with hope.
if you try to contain your longing
it always spills over the edges.
::
you cannot hide your bruises.
they are the map of your existence
and without them, you are lost.
::
you cannot whisper to a rose.
there is nothing you could say
it has not heard before.
::
you can only smile at the mountain.
let it climb its way through your heart
and then listen, for the echo.

You cannot make a meaningful contribution
when words already shared
say it all.
I’ll just sit and enjoy the echo …

“you can only smile at the mountain.
let it climb its way through your heart
and then listen, for the echo.”
This was my very favourite stanza. I love it. You write so very openly and so beautifully.

lovely words, particularly about bruises being the map of our existence; all of them gathered over time are equally important. back from the UK into a sad event that has rather stopped everyone in their tracks. your words particularly resonate this morning, i think because of that.

well, right now, my bruises are souvenirs of moving furniture and bumping into that pesky trailer hitch. but these words and images you’ve knitted together into a salve help.
