Yes, sometimes we get lost in the numbers, to the detriment of truly important measures…Nice insight on this.

does the flower really know when to bloom?does the bird really know when to fly north?i think not mrs m.! HUNKER DOWN!

there are so many firsts and lasts in life that keep the mystery of time elusive. even when the bird takes flight, and you, kelly, always keep me coming back for more. thank you.

Ah–this just makes me want to breathe it in slowly–beautifully said

the flower knows when to bloom…
it comes down to nature…
and while everything adds up…
we become the variable
in the equation
of our life.

Time is but an illusion, an affectation, & numbers can lie in the guise of “creative accounting”, but the deep-seated genetic & natural rhythms of life are impervious to all that; lovely poem.

cool shot… cool title – and yeah – the flower needs no figures nor dates…she just knows…
March 11th, 2014 at 3:20 pm
Yes, it is amazing, isn’t it, how the flowers know just when to bloom. One of the mysteries of nature indeed.

We, too, have our internal clocks; some of us just take longer to bloom.
Nicely written.

Gorgeous. Yes, time is only a number, but so much in those numbers!
March 11th, 2014 at 4:28 pm
I very much like this – and ending just pops –
It reminds me how few days are in a life.

I like the title – one can’t escape what mathematics has discovered for us, allowed us to explore from atoms and molecules, to finding cures, to filming space – but sometimes, in order to be truly human, one needs to “just let it happen”. Wonderfully conceived.

Yes…it comes down to numbers and the flower knows when to bloom.
March 11th, 2014 at 5:02 pm
fun read… there is math in poetry
March 11th, 2014 at 5:31 pm
I love the macro shot & your ending is just stellar – they sure know when to bloom ~ The mystery of nature ~
March 11th, 2014 at 5:32 pm
The blooming of the flower is the antithesis to the counting of days and numbers. Very nice poem.

Great concept to write a poem on and so very true!
March 11th, 2014 at 8:03 pm
i like the title…and the final pithy observation!
March 11th, 2014 at 8:26 pm
this feels japanese
small and infinite

It’s amazing how the flowers know when to bloom they don’t get caught in the arms of time..tick tick of the clock..
March 12th, 2014 at 1:06 am
we are all numbered
March 12th, 2014 at 3:05 am
Or may not bloom at all………… thats her wish….. perfect

The profundity of this poem, the cleverness of your title, and the strangeness of the photograph: stunning.
March 12th, 2014 at 12:03 pm
Flower indeed knows when to bloom – lovely poem. Pie is infinite, so would be the half life, isn’t it?
March 12th, 2014 at 12:05 pm
‘lives add up to minutes’. i would suspect in the winter of our lives, the old age, we might look back and believe it WAS only minutes…
everything in its own time, whether it be our time or not.
beautiful thoughts Mrs M.

The end of the poetry is so great… the time the flower bloom can be the real crown.. How you can pack so much meaning in 140 characters is amazing.

Considering the lilies…
YES. Love this.
March 12th, 2014 at 10:33 pm
I’m guilty of being way too concerned about numbers & not blooming in the moment… *sigh*
great take on the prompt
