landscape, with tea
.
i want to marry earl grey and move to the mountains
live on scones and color song, dreams and folded lawn
breathe in fresh and ripple and whisper pine
.
on a raft in the center of a lake named time
.
we’ll dress the moon in ribbons and hang petals from stars
strip the sunset of orange and use it as fire
never-wait for dawn and sip the scent of every howl
.
from an island of boulder, shoulder and bone
.
to warm our toes in the quilt of forgiveness
steep our hearts in the river of revolution
soothe our skin with the afterglow of room
.
beneath our sky tent bird fingered curious home
.
.

This is beautiful, Kelly… I love how the words flow together so eloquently. LOL- I’d prefer coffee and scones at the beach, though. = )

I’d replace early grey with assam and then I’m right there with you. Love the flow of these piece.
PS I always find it funny that because I’m british people assume I like early grey. Taste like you’re drinking perfume, he, he, he.

I loved all the allusions here – so wonderful! Your poem reminded of a lyrics from the band Sparks
“Chicks dig, dig, D-I-G, dig, dig metaphors.
Chicks dig, dig, D-I-G, dig, dig metaphors.
Use them wisely use them well
and you’ll never know the hell
of loneliness.”
Your poem was excellent.

You might find Earl Grey a little stiff; he stands statuesque on a pillar in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne 🙂
More seriously now, I really enjoyed this. It is like balm poured onto a troubled soul, bringing a taste of serenity that has been absent too long.

Caught up in the serenity of this piece. Especially love the first four lines. Lovely!

Transported me to an interior liberty, a place of dream, pregnant shadows, and sensory delight. Gorgeous.

LOvely and surreal bringing me so beautifully into your revery. You have made the unreal real, and the real enlightened with your poetic vision. Thank you so much.

I too would elope with the Earl, but would keep Lapsang Souchong on the side. I can’t stand that Lady Grey though..too orangey.

So many gorgeous lines here…the hook at the beginning, marrying earl gray…the quilt of forgiveness…and much more. A beautiful write!

All this from a sip of tea… Sigh. This is the best description of how important tea (or coffee) is to so many people. ;). One sinks into the first lines and the rest is like a fluffy down comforter. Just beautiful.

Stunning! Mrs. Mediocrity, of all your poetry I’ve read – this one completely knocked me out of my chair…. Unfortunately, I found the second line to be crafted so ingeniously that it overshadowed my ability to finish the poem. In my opinion this is your best poem yet, though I’ve missed a few over the last few months. Now regretting that….

Just fine fine writing here, Kelly–I was nodding at every perfect analogy, loved the sound of ‘boulder, shoulder and bone,’ and every image was perfectly modulated, yet dazzling, leading the blinking eye to that killer last line. Putting you on my blogroll, because I can’t stand the thought of how many of these I may have missed.

It’s just lovely…sounds like Emily herself; and tea is a superb commodity, something I partake of every day, several times a day.

oh my word, your poem left me breathless. excellent.
