reading over the shoulder
of impermanence
with the posture of a perfect impostor
the kind that can look you in the eye and make you see
blue
when it has already been established
that green is the color
of tomorrow
and
i want to kiss your neck
nuzzle in a little
settle down
get to know what makes you
tick
tock
and which words are your favorite
but of course
we both know
you have already
erased them
covered them over
with hatch marks and
strips of black
marker
no looking back
no turning the page
no deciphering
because
everything you say
is code for someone
who isn’t
gone
yet

it is good not to be gone yet whether you are green or blue.

but of course
we both know
you have already
erased them
covered them over
with hatch marks and
strips of black
marker…. oh i feel that…also the part with the seeing blue when the already established tomorrow color is green…there are people that can influence our world so heavily and when you turn around, they have moved on…tight piece..

Love this. That final stanza has such sadness to it.

This abstract is perfect for your words. Beautiful!

Wow
October 23rd, 2012 at 11:15 am
I’m speechless, very affecting. I’ll be coming back again and again.

oh snap…code for someone who is not gone yet…great close…the blacking out of the words…intensity in that…this was felt…

“everything you say
is code for someone
who isn’t
gone
yet.”
Powerful, indeed.

“everything you say
is code for someone
who isn’t
gone
yet.” Great piece, Kelly.

Powerful piece! So much feeling in those short lines.

Loved this. Loved the shoulder of impermanence, the code for someone who isn’t gone from their heart. So nice.

very moving…code for someone who isn’t gone yet…so much emotion layered in that,,thanks.

You say so much in such a short poem. Well done!

I think the first stanza is my favorite. Everything from the abstract imagery to the the underlying symbolism is just fantastic! Great write!
October 23rd, 2012 at 5:19 pm
Wonderful.

I feel your desire and the other persons closed mind.
October 23rd, 2012 at 6:51 pm
I do feel the sadness in this piece, especially the stanza….the losses, and those to come!
October 23rd, 2012 at 7:02 pm
The clash of reality and fantasy/dream or whatever the word is; whatever blue is when you write it. I loved the presentation and read. Excellente!

This sounds like the author knows or, feels, the person they love has (mentally) slipped away or is in the process of it and, they are aware in all the subtle ways that show, even if the words are unsaid. Very effective poetry, Sad.

I like the ending stanza too ~ Nice one ~

“with the posture of a perfect impostor
the kind that can look you in the eye and make you see
blue
when it has already been established
that green is the color
of tomorrow”
such a strong and intense opening, and everything else falling into step behind, evolving as it should, very nice!

Ouch. I am always struck by how simply you say complex things, and by how they always sneak up on me. Very fine poem.
October 23rd, 2012 at 11:15 pm
There is such a great flow to this piece. Impermanence…wow…

Yeowch I start to write – then see Hedge’s comment – this is very sharp and biting but also expresses the pain of the bitten. Well done. k.

life is a strange business
this makes me think of beaches
all the lives marking their day in the sand
and the tide washing over.

Sad — “you have already erased them”.
My poem today addresses Centered poems like this one — hopefully humorously.

Hey
I love that title – very memorable
and the melancholic tones offer much to reflect
upon . . .
Looking back
, turning heads

I like this. There are people who can convince them of anything, yet are insincere, not really there, gone already. I sense a good healthy anger here. Good writing.
October 24th, 2012 at 2:17 pm
Oh! Killer closing lines!
October 24th, 2012 at 3:17 pm
Your opening grabbed me. Blue and green and farewells unsaid.
October 25th, 2012 at 4:13 am
What a survival mechanism for a loner–just name it what it is not (blue), stay in the very past that you have tried to erase (crossed out). This one is not a nuzzler, at least not a soft one! Can we remember to walk past he who always expects the worst?
October 29th, 2012 at 2:34 am
oooooohhhhhh . . . nice! very!!!
