the inverted posture
of poetry at dawn
and we swam circles around each other
like shark or sunfish or skittering
pond skaters
because
neither one of us
heard ophelia singing
and what did it matter
so deep in the forest
of upside down
neverland
sky

How can you tell the difference
Between your true lover and some other?
Ophelia sings, but how will you ever know if you do not take the chance?

Ah, sometimes it seems like so many people spend time swimming circles around each other. And, yes, it is a good question….what DOES it matter!

To me the connection to Ophelia and water makes this a little sinister.. if just the swimming around could connect so that song of Ophelia would never be heard.

Upside down, neverland sky…
What lovely rhythm!

I love the shape of the words but so intriguing that no one saw nor heard of ophelia singing ~
So good of you to join us Kelly ~

I love this. Utterly love this. The neglect of threat for the price of bliss. And the Ophelia reference is perfect. One of my favorite literary figures/metaphors used astutely. Xoxo

No one takes responsibility…are imitating life. Really well crafted – you’ll have to change your name.

love the shape of this, and the word choices, and well everything really.

I like the visual shape of this poem but I really like the words of it. I think if I were in the water and heard Ophelia singing, I’d be heading for the shore. but true, in the end, what does it matter?

Beautifully written!

“because
neither one of us
heard ophelia singing”
Some lovers are blind and sometimes deaf to all, save the their own hearts. That is a selfish love, because true love is inclusive, never indifferent to others.
This is exquisitely worded, with the quoted phrase providing much pathos and depth.
