zen and the art of survival
i need to eat and you’re not hungry
we are mind mirror
life miners
asking hope to keep promises never made
i feed you prawns for breakfast
and there is never enough
you are sage and i am curry
you are silence and i am angry
you have too much and i
get lost a lot
of course I don’t blame you
for accepting what was offered
i am
quiet
standing
balanced
blown but not destroyed
by the way of things
you need to eat and
i am hungry
plate, fork
salt, knife
round table

Thank you; I need this now. I will tell the tulips.

wow…what a moving piece…love the contrasts between you and them throughout this piece…love the rapid beat of the first stanza…makes me think of giving up your own so they can have even though you are hungry

Love the contrasts — I feel a lot of yin and yang in this. Hopefully the balance works.

I too loved how you balanced things in this piece–beautiful write!

I love this. The yin and yang of relationships. I especially like “asking hope to keep promises never made”

give and take, in and out, yin and yang, all coming together in this one clear verse. survival is an act of balancing.

life miners….so much in this verse…so much in the lines between…really felt like i was balancing from one side to the other while reading… survival is much about balance as well…ha…smiles

you are sage and I am curry…that’s a perfect line! Gorgeous.

I like the balance in this too, and the idea of the round table–which I find quite symbolic!
May 7th, 2013 at 5:44 pm
I had to read this a few times just because it made me smile and I wanted to explore why it had such an effect!! …a round table…no one more important than any other …great!
May 7th, 2013 at 8:03 pm
Even within the balanced standoff, I feel the shift so that the “must eat” and “hungry” match in the end–almost missed that. Neat!
May 7th, 2013 at 8:06 pm
I love the contrasts in this, life is all about the balance.
May 7th, 2013 at 8:06 pm
Great write.

I like that you’re striving to find balance in your relationship. In the end you’re minds have met at least for the moment.

This read to me like an encounter with our flesh. How weak mine is. If I am not close., it was still a very intriguiung read. I love your voice as always!
May 7th, 2013 at 10:33 pm
I love the contrast between the two… beautiful and unique. I would hate to think that I was so much like another…

There is that minute space where yin and yang fit together. Perhaps that is the round table. Well written.

There is a seeking of balance, almost along the edge of of a very sharp sword it seems to me. Maybe its the spareness of the lines and words, yet it brings to mind a very fine dance of Butoh proportions.

“i am
quiet
standing
balanced
blown but not destroyed
by the way of things”
These lines spoke to me. Lovely write.

Beautiful contrast. So many great lines…mind mirror / life miners…and your ending. Nice.
May 8th, 2013 at 3:06 pm
Love the yin and yang contrasts in this – and the little twist at the end is delicious.
May 8th, 2013 at 3:08 pm
I felt like I was tipping from one side to the other as I read this, and then came to rest on a flat round surface. Loved it!

Some very nice phrases here.

My first impression is the struggle the effort, the struggle to balance, the sounds, texture, the very tactile connections here. I’d say more but that requires several more reads. Thank you.

round table, indeed. great poem

as one who does (i admit it) sometimes blame for the acceptance of unasked offerings, i feel those particular words like a pinprick or the edge of a knife against my skin. this feels like a true relationship, never steady, always changing.
