waiting with the patience
of no choice
for surely
something wonderful
is about to happen
the sun will set
and color will come home
the moon will rise
and stars will dance with midnight
a seed will burst through the soil
a leaf will unfold
a flower will open
an egg will divide
somewhere, a face cracks into a smile
somewhere else, tears are falling
and in all the miles between
anger and silence and joy and rhythm
form a quilt of square and triangle
rectangle and hexagon
inviting you to settle under
snuggle into
cover over
the rich dark soil underneath
wet and dank and teeming with
worms turning
turn turn
a darkness that feeds you
through the hollow cave of night
until morning comes and warms you
with promises promises
of another day
another chance
to sit there
watching
stand there
waiting
for surely
something wonderful
is about to happen

There is such a strong sense of yearning here that it is palpable. I wonder what the wonderful thing that is about to happen is.

This is wonderfully shaped and active with lush imagery. The feeling of wonder is so infused in your lines, I’m not sure it even matters what happens next, it is sure to be incredible.

I love the imagery of the piece. And I can’t wait for something wonderful to happen! 🙂

Bit of this, bit of that
hope, promise and remembrance.
Mind you, one can have badgers or worms, but not both 🙂

The anticipation of things to come…wow. Really liked that. I liked how you built this poem from beginning to end to bring me from darkness to light, from night to morning. Good job.
March 26th, 2013 at 3:50 pm
loved this all~
March 26th, 2013 at 4:26 pm
Indeed – I liked how this turns from something that sounds temporary into something that feels eternal, but not in a bad way – in a connected to eternity and the rhythm of the world way. Hope that makes sense. I damn near stood up and applauded, but I’m in my office and it might cause a disruption, a lovely poem, thanks friend

first…love the title…and i think the soil/beneath the earth part/unseen is what hit me most…so many things we can’t yet see..but already prepare for when it becomes visible…so waiting for spring..

Your words and photo remind me of my weekend just past. Waking early in the morning to watch the sun rise over the water, hummingbird sitting just so, and eagles flying by. A magical early morning of quietness and thoughts.
March 26th, 2013 at 11:27 pm
The title itself is a poem and to be treated to your words that followed doubled my pleasure.
March 27th, 2013 at 12:28 am
You never cease to amaze! Love the photo and every word.
March 27th, 2013 at 1:16 am
And in that stillness, that waiting, becomes itself, reward. Sometimes. That’s what I felt about your poem. This is lovely, haunting, and lovely.

There is always something new and exciting happening all around us. This is beautiful in its anticipation.

Somehow you immerse us in a poetic gestation, like a woman dealing with baby hunger, knowing her womb was designed for something she is choosing to disregard, yet the hormones rage, and transfer it to the solstice, the life beneath the March mud; love the ride, thanks.
March 27th, 2013 at 12:42 pm
Anticipation a bud, it’s bloom lurking and the hopefulness and spirit comes of it so artfully expressed in your piece.
Nicely written.
Happy Spring!
March 27th, 2013 at 4:05 pm

I think the repeated words were very effective. Anxious for what we cannot control.
