harbor
.
why are we so afraid of empty?
we fill our homes with too much stuff
our bellies with too much food
our minds with too much information
{stop}
give me a clean sheet
an unfilled bowl
a barren cave to sleep in
.
i want space
air • clean • clear • white
wide • open • hollow
.
nothing
absolutely nothing
to distract me
.
from life

so deeply profound and touching. (might quote you on this one, too) xo

You pinpoint that universal fear so well–fear of the annihilation of nothingness, that blackness void of ‘stuff’ which terrifies us so much we can;t even look at it, yet are always trying to fill it, and never can, until we face it, as you do here. Really well written.

Oooh the coveted cave . . . let me know when you find one.

Now *that’s* wisdom! Those things aren’t life, but rather the distractions. Bril, just bril.

each new year i begin with a ‘clean slate’. it doesn’t stay that way long, but it is always a fresh start. i like empty. i like uncomplicated.
i like sitting perfectly still, barely breathing just taking in the day. i particularly like your ’empty’. and always your thoughts.

Wise words, Kelly. Space is freedom. 🙂

Nothing to distract you from life. That’s so well said. I have a friend who leaves a drawer in her kitchen empty – as an homage to empty. To freedom from stuff. To quiet. To enough already, we have more and more and more than enough already.

nothing to distract me from life…heck yes…we’re so flooded with these things that we can’t see the ground, the important things any more… i wouldn’t mind a cave as well sometimes…

A demand for simplicity. This poem is delightfully apt for my desires at the moment. Very nicely written.
