.
i hold nothing in my fingers but time
you laugh and say
impossible
but in your heart
you hear whispers of minutes
.
in winter
the sun is empty
i paint gold leaf onto snowbanks
and we watch
another day melt
.
yesterday i extracted
a sliver of silence from my palm
when i held it up to the light
i saw a fuzzy grey snapshot
of midnight

I love how the poem is held in hand, first and last stanza and the blank sun inbetween. Lovely.

If I could step into your poem, I would.

So many great lines, it’s hard to choose my favourite. But perhaps ‘in your heart/ you hear whispers of minutes’. As for the melting of days – it feels so right, so natural…

you write such delicate beauty of the soul out. ‘i paint gold leaf onto snowbanks
and we watch
another day melt’ – i simply adore this as i read and re-read. your words are a treasure.

Wonderful imagery…I think my favorite may be the second stanza. 🙂

I adore the first verse. ‘I hold nothing in my fingers but time’ is a very strong line. Great work!

I like this. “In winter the sun is empty.” Yes, I feel the same way! Well written.

Whispers of minutes… melting days… great imagery. The branches of the tree in the photo do look like fingers. So cool that you made that connection.

Goddamn….
“i hold nothing in my fingers but time
you laugh and say
impossible
but in your heart
you hear whispers of minutes…”
Couldn’t find a single image I liked … loved the whole piece. But the first stanza stood out for me 🙂

Your words always have a way of dancing magically. Extracting the sliver of silence from the palm has to be my favorite. Beautiful imagery 🙂

with the final stanza you really do
sweep the poetic across the page 🙂

Ah, this is just lovely! First stanza hooked me…and you know u have the other listening when you say in their heart they hear whispering of minutes. Lovely write!

I’ve never described a poem as ‘pretty’, but that’s the word that comes to mind when I read this. Actually, it’s beautiful. I love the images it conjures up. Makes me think of aging and how our hands don’t lie about that.

This left so much unsaid, I immediately started filling in the rest, which is a compliment. If I read it and felt / did nothing, then that would be worse. Very quietly powerful.

My favorite image? The day melting. Lovely. I could see it.
