murmuration
i have no place
to put
this broken heart
no shelf wide enough
no bucket deep enough
no abyss dark enough
it sits in my hand
beating
beating
beating
bleating
hope dripping
through my fingers
faster
than i can catch it
i stand here beneath
this forever sky
naked and afraid and
raise arms high
until this cracked love clock
eclipses
my view of the sun
backlit kaleidoscope prism
the color of everything
hold on
hold
on
i have no place
to put
this broken heart

naked and afraid, heart in hand, no shelf to put it on…that covers just about as well as i can think of how i and many feel at this time….hang in there…

“raise arms high
until this cracked love clock
eclipses
my view of the sun”
Yes, and I say the place for the pieces of this broken heart are in tender, caring hands.
Excellent poem, Happy Christmas! – Mosk

Me neither. How do you hold your own heart and comfort it? By doing something? By making small, humane choices and changes within your sphere of influence? Prayer? Tears? Looking toward light.

This one resonates so deeply and is gorgeously expressed, as always. You’re a treasure, we’re so fortunate you share these poems with us.

“hope dripping
through my fingers
faster
than i can catch it”
Hold it, mrsu, hold it and breathe! This is the most powerful of all your poems, it moves me to tears and fear that the hope could run out. When it does, the sun hides in shame and we die.

Sometimes the only thing we can manage to do is… hold on. Beautiful writing.

The sentiment is so strong yet beautifully handled here. The formatting heightens the sense of desolation and loss; I felt this piece in my body right away (that doesn’t often happen). The broken hearts will heal and changes will come. xx

How a broken heart still beats when the pain feels so unbearable is beyond me, and yet it does and we go on. Well penned.

There are times a poem does not need any other layer of meaning than its own immediate expressiveness. This is one of them.

Such a beautiful poem. This is what I am doing with my heart these days, I hold it with tenderness, listen to each beat, each bleat, cry with my heart, allow the brokenness to open me to deeper compassion, bringing more kindness into the world shining through the darkness of grief. Perhaps you might be able to do the same.
