there are no mysteries
you hold all life’s gifts in your heart
all folded up and tucked
into the tiniest of pockets
held in place with
a gilded button flap
and you might even
forget all about them
for years at a time
but then one day
a moment will come and
you will sit down
quietly
in some corner
somewhere
and
unbutton
unfold
unforget
everything you’ve ever known
hold it gently
in your palm
slowly
breathe life
back into
that tiny body
offer
strength
and air and
vision
and hope
until eventually
both of you
begin to smile
in recognition
.

breathtakingly beautiful. it can be quite easy to tuck things away–not so easy to unfold, but the beauty those gifts possess are worth the effort.
November 20th, 2012 at 8:23 pm
Hope so! I start to write and then see what MZ wrote. The biggest mystery – who is the you unwrapping!? A lovely poem. k.
November 20th, 2012 at 8:40 pm
sometimes the heart even holds notes that you don’t want to unfold and remember at all, ever……xo

Love this vision of an inner certainty and hope personified–and I do agree, it has to come from that buttoned up place we don;t think about much.
November 20th, 2012 at 9:13 pm
…waiting for the right time and place, i guess… perhaps life’s gift is like that… coming to you at a point when you can already appreciate it and hold it fully and sincerely without any doubts.
