chalice
you know what you were meant to do
you know it in your
heart and you refuse
to listen
just exactly the same way
you never listen to the wind
in the trees at night
whispering moon love to the owl
the way you tilt your head and pause
when thunder rumbles
but never when the sky is blue
the way you walk past that same
dirty penny six days in a row
and never stoop to pick it up
you know what you were meant to do
sit down upon a rock and stay
until your back breaks
your palms bleed
your heart cracks open
every answer you need
will run down
down
through the fingers of hope
cupped to hold them
.

ugh that’s deep..the knowing what to do but refuse to listen…the finding ways and excuses not to do things we know we should..sounds familiar…love the part of coming to rest and finding the peace to open up…listen…and the hope that comes with it…

So rich with rhythm, texture, and truth.

Phew, this made me cry, it really snuck up on me. Amazing as always.

The final image you present with your words brings home just how hollow hope can be…a haunting write this OpenLinkNight!

dang…been there…trying to avoid what i know i was meant to do…it takes time…i ran from mine for over a year…really excellent imagery…and felt…

It is very difficult to structure a line, including Moon, love and whispering and make it
appear original . . .
whispering moon love to the owl
you did it! and I love that line
. It’s all in the syntax! PROPS!!!

Kelly, this is deep and powerful. I’ve been there so I can relate. A great write.

Some things you write seem to resonate in the very core of me. This one dug deep.

Beautiful write–we can walk around in circles until we surrender–

Advice is so rarely taken, even when it’s wise and full of owls and moonlight. Really excellent writing.

The knowing but ignoring can be such a plight, but I guess when you need more than a penny to live, sometimes you have to ignore the light.

Another wonderful piece.

dear god, but this is magic inspired truth to the nth degree. my god.

Once you become aware of what you’re supposed to do, you can’t act like you don’t know. So, I guess that’s how you know that you’re growing up. A great poem.

We humans are the worst for giving good advice but, never taking our own. This is really deep, so deep it could hurt for its truths. Do we ever listen?
If the last thing left is hope then, there’s hope.
Beautiful poetry.

every answer you need/will run down
down
through the fingers of hope
cupped to hold them
This is a very powerful ending, and a nice complement to the quiet force of the first stanzas. I’m optimistic that some of the answers will stay. Very fine job.

yes! we often ignore our heart of hearts out of pure fear… shame we’d rather live in self-agony for the acceptance of people that don’t even know who they are themselves. pfft.

Powerful and direct, this piece dares the reader to deny, dares the addressee to decry, the truth herein. The double-spacing, forcing a slower pace, amplifies the message.

Lovely… I especially like:
you never listen to the wind
in the trees at night
whispering moon love to the owl

WOW! A super writing — powerful rich poignant and reflective — thank you for sharing this!

So moved by this. xox

Very hard if you know what you are meant to do and for whatever reason don’t do it. I do like what you did with the spacing which helps get the meaning across as well.

I liked the 15-line sonnet, so to speak. 🙂 That was nice and best for me. Some fabulous imagery:
the way you tilt your head and pause
when thunder rumbles
Oh yes.

I think my Paris moon with its tilted beret goes well with this poem.

The obstinacy of mankind…though one wonders what drives it? Ignorance, lack of will, fear? Thought-provoking and image-laden, a nice read.

This made me cry, as your beautiful and amazing words often do. What else is there to say? xoxo

Powerful…and so true!! thanks

Beautiful. One could read your poem many times over and learn more from each reading. I, for one, am never afraid of knowledge or the search for more. Truly enjoyed 🙂

You’ve hit the nail on the head for me again and in such a beautiful way.
