faded bride
you never know
where life will take you
we like to think we know
or at the very least
can guess
but
we are born
with all the knowledge
we need and
spend the rest
of our lives
forgetting
each step brings us
a tiny bit closer
to understanding
that in the end
we know
nothing
because even in
the worst of years
the driest hottest
drought of summer
can bring forth
the perfect blush
of one september
rose

Very wise. Yes, in the beginning of life we know nothing….and at the end of life as well. It all goes full circle, doesn’t it? But one September rose can STILL be an unexpected result!

ah lovely…this was a bit like a rollercoaster….we are born knowing everything only to forget it was the peek before the down only to com back up with the rose…

Just excellent. As my grandmother used to say when we were kids “You look like the last rose of summer.” I was never sure if that was a compliment or not, but now I’m thinking, yes.

so true…i always find it funny…as a teenager you think you know just EVERYTHING..and the older we get, the more humble we get, realizing that life is far more than we suspected back then and that we may never find all the depths of shades we would love to discover…cool closure with the rose as well…

This is gorgeous! Beautiful closing lines…

What goes around comes around. The more we know the more we are humbled in our thinking! This is a wonderful verse with a wonderful ending! Nicely Kelly!

Wanted to revisit the warm glow of your image and words. Your work is vital and necessary in a world that continually demands forgetfulness.

beautiful written & true… i like the way you set things apart, as in the last lines & especially here:
“each step brings us
a tiny bit closer
to understanding
that in the end
we know
nothing”

we are born/with all the knowledge/we need and/
spend the rest/of our lives
forgetting
These are wonderful stand-alone lines. Wonderful thinking and writing.
