the stillness of certainty
when what i want
is the chaos of doubt
and you
you hide behind
that smokescreen
of birdsong
and pretty sky
where blue
is the color
of everything
but purple
is my favorite
and
three
small planes
crisscross clouds
like geese heading
to triumvirate ponds
while two
grasshoppers vie
for one green leaf
and black eyed susans
force canned laughter
onto the stage
but
the catbird
its very name
an oxymoron
perches high
and watches
a storm roll in
grey squared
in one blind
eye

I’ve been away; and it is wonderful to be back home where I can wake to your words.

A lot of times I subscribe to a blog and I get tired of the emails coming, but that has never happened with yours, I read them everyday at work and they’re always really good. I don’t get to comment as much because it is a pain from my phone, but just know that I am reading them, and loving them.

I think this is a bit of a prayer in pastels – I love that it’s like a telescope turned around where things that are large get reduced as one focuses through the atmosphere to the tiny catbird squared to grey dullness. Perhaps a little bit of an exasperation, too!

Enchanting.

For me, this has a mood that goes from serene to eerie to quiet desperation to the blank face of the cosmos that baffles all description staring out at the end…I liked it very much.

I always come here knowing I will find exactly what it is I need to hear. thank you.

This poem unwinds with such a perfect grace. It almost feels like two poems to me, the first one describing disillusioning expectation, the other one gathering some of the chaos perhaps you wrote of earlier. Love the catbird waiting on the storm, just the kind of detached presence a poet, herself, might bring to tie it all together. This is enigmatic (at least for me) and beautiful.

“and black eyed susans
force canned laughter
onto the stage”
I love this, personally. And I love the truth of the catbird
“grey squared
in one blind
eye”
I love that you reverse my expectations, but you will have your chaos, because this soothsayer already sees it coming.
Certainty is only a mask.
