exposed
a multitude of days
add up to make a life
you’ll never know about
you might see edges
and corners
shiny bits
held up to the sun
(reflecting parts you
thought you’d hidden)
or the flip of a skirt
might reveal
a flash of skin
you’d gone
to great lengths
to cover
but in the deep dark
dead of reality
we can’t see
each other
cannot travel
light years
to meet
in the middle
of a universe
always able to add
expand
hold
one more
beginning
bones buried
scrubbed cleaned
polished
on the shores
of gravity’s
existence

Wow

we cant see each other…this is such a sad thought to me…it depends on so much…how much we are willing to show of those hidden places…and are they ready to see them…and do they even care…its a risk you know…i hate giving up the hope of meeting in an ever expanding universe as well..smiles.

What goes up must come down–that flash of skirt too. Well done. k.
May 15th, 2012 at 10:21 am
we go to great lengths to cover. we just catch glimpses.

This is so beautiful. Both the capture and your words. Wow!

A journey in eternity; the little and the large of it. I felt this trip deeply, completely; stunning.

it’s so difficult sometimes to show who we really are and what we really hope…and we can only meet if we do.. i agree with bri..it’s a risk and an adventure as well..

Let’s get all metaphysical up in here and start collapsing some waves to create our own realities…where we can shrink the universe so that we may meet and share more words! Awesome!
May 15th, 2012 at 3:12 pm
insightful, thought-provoking – we can never know the all and everything of one another… but we do meet and we make wonderful and lasting friendships

we work so hard to cover up and hide the truths of ourselves. and then, too, the truth is often in the eye of the beholder. good write, Mrs. M.

Very nice poem. Definitely, nothing mediocre about it. It’s fantastic!

The older I’ve grown the more I learned that we can even live with someone for a lifetime and think we know them and yet, there’s sides to them of which we really don’t know anything. This is sad and yet, so true too. We humans are such complex beings, well, we aren’t in reality, but, we seem to have such a desire to make it so.
Lovely, lovely write Mrs.M

This is good, and a little scary.
The universe is already big enough, and then it keeps on expanding.
If only we could fly…

All we know and all we don’t know is hidden behind the masks we wear–your guess is as good as mine if we ever see much beyond them. The flip and flash of skirt is a nice visual, and I also like “…in the deep dark
dead of reality…”
The whole poem is very solid and immediate. Liked it much.

abSOULutely gorgeous!

How true–something always remains hidden.
May 15th, 2012 at 4:42 pm
Really like the stanza beginning with ‘the flip of a skirt’ and all those buried bones polished up. Great read.

I guess we never really do meet each other- not really- because we are all inside our own heads- we have those ‘thoughts’ that only we know- and understand – only we k ow our true selves- (actually- I’m realising that I’m starting to sound like I have some serious mental health issues! Maybe I should go and see a doctor! ‘but in the deep dark dead of reality – we can’t see each other’ love this line!
May 15th, 2012 at 4:55 pm
was it wrong for me to laugh at the part about the skirt exposing what we meant to keep covered up….happens to me all the time 🙂
May 15th, 2012 at 5:03 pm
Just Wow! Love this 🙂 It is one of those poems I am going to have to absorb some more.

This made me gasp – there are no words…except – LOVE.
May 15th, 2012 at 5:29 pm
I love the passage and the poem!
May 15th, 2012 at 5:35 pm
Wow, this one sent shivers down my spine. Fantastic write, right up my alley. I love the mind-blowing vastness of these lines:
“of a universe
always able to add
expand
hold
one more
beginning”
May 15th, 2012 at 5:38 pm
but in the deep dark
dead of reality
we can’t see
each other…..sometimes it’s hard to allow people in and expose ourselves. I love this, it’s well penned and honest.
May 15th, 2012 at 5:39 pm
always more to be seen… but you can’t always find it… beautiful write
May 15th, 2012 at 7:08 pm
Yeah it is surely a risk in every single way, may not pay off much either but that one time it does could make the whole thing worth it.
May 15th, 2012 at 7:35 pm
Profoundly moving and one I want to savor, like excellent chai.
May 15th, 2012 at 9:56 pm
This really makes me stop and think about how much we really don’t know.
May 15th, 2012 at 10:33 pm
“or the flip of a skirt
might reveal
a flash of skin
you’d gone
to great lengths
to cover” fabulous metaphor!
May 16th, 2012 at 4:50 am
And yet, we know that we exist. Here we are part of this mystery called life. Wonderful, thought-provoking poetry
May 16th, 2012 at 6:18 pm
As each of us are always changing, we can’t ever be known or know another. We just catch the occasional breeze that blows a sudden exposure into view and again it fades and changes. Well written!
May 16th, 2012 at 10:46 pm
And this is just what I needed to read tonight!!
