well, cuz,
you used to say in a lazy
d r a w n-out southern drawl
that was half swagger half tease
and i always cocked my ear
in your general direction without
looking because i liked to hear
your voice so much better
than i liked to see
who you were.

growing up in the south, i def understand the beauty in hearing it, but i like that twist in the end on rather hearing than seeing…

I love this poem. It reminds me of a radio DJ I listened to in high school because I had a crush on her voice, but hated most of what she said.

When I lived in the south I met many men with ‘half swagger half tease’ in their voice. You’ve provided an excellent character capture and an intriguing poem.
