equinox
{scintilla day 5}
spring comes
on the day
when i rise
to the surface
of the pool
that was winter
gasping for air.
the sun
warms my face
as i pull
myself up
hand over hand
clinging to vine
and veracity.
the grey ghost
regrets his decision
to give up
the reins
a week early,
but in the forest
the vulture
smiles.

It is all here; all that we seek in poetry.

You captured it perfectly. This is how I feel right now and this weekend as I was outside at my uncles breathing in the fresh air and taking pictures. Wonderful! Wonderful! Just as Michael said, “It is all here; all that we seek in poetry.”

I understand that last glance back at the winter. I used to not love winter, but especially with small kids, I really love it as a resting and nesting time. XO lovely piece.

Thank goodness, we also have a beautiful day here today too, makes me feel spring really may have arrived (but this is Atlantic Canada) can’t speak too soon…LOL
Beautiful prose.

Lovely, Kelly.
Been reading all your scintillas each day. Just great. BTW, is “I rise” in Line 3 a cool play on Iris?
March 20th, 2012 at 3:47 pm
We have a long while to wait for the end of winter here so I greatly appreciate your spring poem!
March 20th, 2012 at 3:49 pm
Wow, just wow.
March 20th, 2012 at 4:14 pm
our winter has dissolved into 80 degree temperatures for the past week. it is too early. we hold and breath and wait for the return. in Michigan, when snow leaves too early, there is a price to pay. the vulture is simply hiding.
….but in the meantime, i am enjoying the fruits of his loss, bare ground, coffee on the porch, open windows, no boots.
in fond regard, tilda

March 20th, 2012 at 5:07 pm
A milder winter than usual this year I guess for all of us.
LOVE the coming up for air and vine clinging and such.
And vultures — part of the clean-up crew, eh? 🙂

Love the language, and a real fan of the 6 – 1 change overs. Very nicely done.
Excellent write here.
March 20th, 2012 at 6:56 pm
love the opening on this…the gasping for breath as you surface as i can so relate…the end is rather ominous as i think the vulture might have smiled at me…smiles.
March 20th, 2012 at 7:13 pm

March 21st, 2012 at 3:36 pm
OH loved the ending of this one – its like- here is the ending of winter- BUT beware the bird in the forest- such a metaphor here….I took it as a commentary on change- las in- change is good and positive, but beware your demons, always respect them, always know they are there
March 21st, 2012 at 5:01 pm
Spring is so welcome, even though we didn’t have a winter here. Your poem is a beautiful rebirth.
