a modicum of
arbitrary presence
{august break no. 23}
::
the rainy afternoon
that calls you outside
to sit still and
listen
for echoes of rainbow
in shapes of thunder
the tiny white spider
that slides down, down,
down
an invisible thread
to hover and spin
at your side
the slip and drift
that make it possible
to blindly dive through
silence
while wishing to be
nowhere
but here.

“. . blindly dive through silence..” Nice!
Silence . . . where the dreams are.

This takes me right there, Kelly, to that sweet, full silence. Thank you.

You spin a soft web of words that draws me in…that’s twice today! I am loving this photograph and smiling…the way you describe going outside to listen to the rain and the thunder and hear the lightning…I did that the other day…couldn’t help myself! xo

Wonderful piece, you set the scene and I felt every bit. Couldn’t agree more, would want to be no where else either.

This is lovely. Especially fond of the lines
for echoes of rainbow
in shapes of thunder

Echoes of rainbow shaped like thunder. Very nice perspective for putting things in perspective. Enjoyed very much.

I think I may have inadvertently slipped into a meditative state. Beautiful images, esp the spider.

I’m glad to be here at the library hoping through gorgeous poetry blogs, where the computers are so fast (compared to my aging dinosaur laptop) but I wanna be out with the dewdrop spiders in this rainbowland you so gorgeously paint!

Love this: “the slip and drift that make it possible to blindly dive through silence” … I thought for a second that you were going to end with “wishing to be nowhere,” which I could completely identify with at times. But then I saw your final two words. 🙂

I love when a poet turns perceptions of sense a little on the slant side, such as you did with “echoes of rainbows in shapes of thunder.” That being the case, I could smell the rain. Beautiful piece.

What camera do you use, Kelly? Your photos are exquisite as are your words. Always.
