blisters
{august break no. 16}
i’ve begun to revel
in my blisters.
they are evidence
of mortality,
documents of despair,
monuments to motion.
they are mine.
i earned them,
i asked for them,
i paid for them.
i cannot move forward
without them.
and beneath the
worn leather
that created them,
they’ve acquired
the importance
of god.

this works for both feet and Blog Sisters .. those of us who went to the Virginia BlogFest last July and the July before that coined the term Blister .. even if you didnt go to VA, if you are a woman and a blogger you got Blisters!

i like that – each of our blisters and scars tell a history…and sometimes it’s a brave one…and yeah – earned and payed for them…

Oh so lovely. I will never look at blisters with disdain. Pain? Maybe, but never again disdain. 🙂

this makes one think….they are evidence
of mortality…powerful.

Loved how you revealed such a presence from a blister, wonderful piece.

wow rich write…like scars we earn them and they remind us we are moving and not given up for dead…

Before I forget, did I mention that I love your orange-yellow tabby cat as pictured in your sidebar? We have one the exact same coloring and I love him to death, that big squeezie love muffin.
But back to your blisters… I hope they will soon callous over, even tho you do seem very brave and upbeat about your mortality I know they hurt like heck.

I like the evidence of hard work too.
August 16th, 2011 at 4:15 pm
When you have worked hard to earn them you can wear them with pride however painful, no pain, no gain eh?
Lovely, ouchy painful, prose.

I love short sharp pieces that really deliver and this does.
I’ve had a seven inch scar on my arm since I was twelve. I tried to hide it for years until a guy told me that scars tell the story of our lives and we should be proud of them. I’ve not hidden it since. In fact when my sons were little and their friends asked how I got it I told them I was bitten by a shark. That was until their mothers started ringing up and complaining lol.
This is an excellent example of how to write on a big theme using small details. Love it.

..i simply like this write.. the emotions and message you’re trying to convey is so well expressed and impressed.. and the notion of importance of God had me in awe.. great one!

I love the power of this!

Potent poem with such concision.

Wrinkles, yes. Scars, check. Blisters–not the usual reminder that comes to mind. Humble, and all the more effective for the poem’s purpose. Bonus points for originality, and great use of metaphor.

i hate blisters…but know they only come with hard work. lately, my heart has a few blisters……xoxo

The power of the blister. The pain of purpose. Of holding ones spot in a storm. Medal-like. I enjoyed this very much.

pain we must endure
to feel the joy!
August 17th, 2011 at 5:06 pm
Oh yessss!! There is no gain without pain, is there now?
Very nicely written indeed! Powerful and intense… and yes, direct!! Me likes!

blisters and scars, wrinkles and lines,
those of laughter and those of time,
those paid for –
“monuments of motion” – yes!
~Thank you for not stretching or masking them…

Great, surprising poem. Never expected an “ode to blisters.” Well done.

Blisters indeed! I like this quirky look at something we tend to see only the negatives of usually. My poor son had a burn blister 4 weeks ago – it is still healing. And it has been a huge life experience for him.
