retreat
shadows dance around corners
to sing their own version of blues
morning frost leaves patterns on windows
unique as the day that will melt them
hope jumps through hoops in the garden
as a chickadee searches for seed
and i sit in this chair in my kitchen
watching life through a smile
and a curtain

The first thing that came to mind when I read this was “there’s no place like home.”

What a wonderful photo, it allows me to create different thoughts about what I”m seeing. Love it!

This is brilliant! I love the imagery, the personification of hope, watching life through a smile and a curtain… absolutely amazing.

How I long to jump through hoops with Hope! Actually, now that I think about it – I’ve pretty well based an entire existence on doing just that.
The poem makes me a little sad though – for the person separated from the all of it by a curtain. The good news is, curtains are not brick walls ~ but still, I hope the smiling Observer is isolated by choice rather than accepting that she’s a witness to, but not a participant in, the wonders around her.
Your poems make me think AND feel. You have such a gift …

Is it enough to watch, even with a smile? Can you also dance, leave patterns and jump?
This is really lovely.

mmmmm … smiling right along with you, mrs. m …
you know i adore you and admire how wonderfully you weave words
and imagery ~ your words today touch me so ~ can we please
have tea someday and watch the birds while we visit? …
i am sorry i don’t get here more often to comment,
but i continuously love what you do … how you see and live life
and share it so graciously …
i have been out in the yard a great deal these days trying to get
everything tucked in … i always make a winter feeding station
close to our dining area window ~ those dear little chickadees
get so excited!
oh! and i have to say that your song choice for jamie’s life soundtrack at the i.studio today …
wow … the video … damien rice … the way he so so so so
gently takes our breath away at the end …
and the image of them standing in front of those waves …
left me limp.
*hugs* to you always ~
